1 Rue de la Legion d'Honneur - Tel: 01- 4049 4814 The Musée d'Orsay, one of the most popular museums in Paris, is internationally renowned for its art collection, which consists mostly of French paintings, photography, sculpture, furniture and objets d'art from 1848 to 1914. Originally, the building that houses the Musée d'Orsay was a railway station. The station, which was called Gare d'Orsay, was built by Victor Laloux in 1900. It was the last station on the Paris-Orléans line.
The railway station was closed in 1939. In 1978, it was declared a historical monument. In December 1986, the old train station was reopened as a museum, holding collections from the Louvre, the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Musée du Jeu de Paume. The Musée d'Orsay is located River Seine's left bank. It is open daily from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
