The Champs-Élysées in 1890

If you visit Paris, then you must visit the well known Avenue des Champs-Élysées - the most vibrant location in Paris.

Avenue des Champs-Élysées forms a sectionof the Axe Historique, which runs from central Paris outward.

The Champs-Élysées extends from Place de la Concorde to Place de l'Étoile. The Arc de Triomphe is located at Place de l'Étoile.

Tourists and local Paris residents will find a large selection of different types of shopping and entertainment venues at this Paris attraction.

Before 1616, the Champs-Élysées consisted only of fields. In, fact the name translates to "Elysian fields".

In 1616, Marie de Medici decided to have it converted to a long pathway lined with trees.

The Champs-Élysées was originally shorter than it is today. It did not reach as far as the Place de l'Étoile until 1724.

By the end of the 18th century, the Champs-Élysées had already become very fashionable. Marie Antoinette studied music at the Hôtel de Crillon.

In 1828, Avenue des Champ-Élysées became the property of the City of Paris. The avenue was made safer and more pleasant for visitors and citizens of Paris by the addition of fountains, footpaths and gas lighting.
